Broken Bow’s Andrew Wallis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Pine Cellular

By Derrick Smith

The success that an athlete enjoys depends on a few different factors. The amount of work and time they are willing to commit to their sport plays a big role in their level of success. Something else that can play a part is who the athlete allows to influence their life. Andrew Wallis believes that he has a great group that has always been there for him.

“My parents, brother, and coach have all made a big impact on my life,” he said. “They have all been so special to me. They have all been very supportive in everything I do, no matter the position, or circumstance, they have taught me everything I know and made me into the person I am today.”

Wallis is a senior at Broken Bow High School, where he is a two-year member of the school’s golf team. After playing football as a freshman, Wallis commits his total focus on golf trying to master his skills.

“I have really improved the most this season, more than I have in my entire career,” Wallis said.

According to Wallis, a major player making a big impact in his life is Kraig Sundberg, athletic director at Broken Bow High School.

“Coach Sundberg has been there for me. He has been so caring and passionate about everything he does not only with me, but everyone that he works with,” said Wallis. “That has shown me a lot of things; to be calm and patient with everyone, and how anger and frustration doesn’t help any situation no matter the circumstance. He has taught me many things that have helped me grow as a person in so many ways.”

The success that Andrew has earned has happened because of what he was willing to do to get it.

“I have had awesome coaches, great practices, and so many great teammates,” he said. “The main thing that has improved my skill and performance is hard work and dedication to practicing – pushing myself to get in an hour more or even thirty minutes.”

Wallis has a solid outlook for his final high school golf season.

“I am very excited about this golf season,” he said. “I know we will do better than we have in previous years. I want to thank my coaches Mollie Wallis and Zac Cater for everything they have done for me.”
