Hugo’s La’Marcus Davis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Security First National Bank

By Derrick Smith

There are a lot of things that are required in order for an athlete to be the best they can be. How they play in their games is important, but preparing to compete is something that is what gets the athlete to gameday.

La’Marcus Davis says that it has not been easy but he knows the work will pay off one day.

“I have put in a lot of work to get where I am today,” he said. “To be your best, you also have to be dedicated to the sport and to practice. Some people want to be great athletes but they are not willing to sacrifice. I also use C4 Sports Performance & Fitness to help me work on my game for football and to get better and hopefully receive better scholarships.”

Davis is a freshman at Hugo High School, where he is a multisport athlete for the Buffaloes. He plays combo guard on the basketball court, while he splits time between quarterback, running back, and strong safety for the football team. He also plays goalie and forward for the soccer team and runs the 200 meter and four-leg on the track team, while he also is a member of the powerlifting team.

There have been a few people that Davis has looked up to throughout his life, but he says that one of the largest influences on his life is NBA superstar LeBron James.

“I feel like I can relate to LeBron,” La’Marcus said. “I feel like that in a lot of different ways, but mostly I feel like I was raised similarly to the way he was. Plus, he is a really great athlete.”

Another person that has been influential in Davis’ life was one of his coaches.

“Coach Demontra Akins has taught me a lot of things,” he said. “Mainly how to be a leader and how to be a team leader and how important it is to be a team player. That is a key to being a successful team is having everyone on the same page.”
