Broken Bow’s Cameron Hopkins – Athlete spotlight – presented by pine cellular

Most high school track athletes in Oklahoma train for the chance to compete in an event at the OSSAA State Track Championships. Broken Bow’s Cameron Hopkins got that opportunity times four this year. The Savage senior was an individual competitor in the 400 meters, ran the second leg for the 4×100 meter relay, which made it to the finals; and also was part of the 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams.

“The competition and speed at state is very impressive and exciting because everyone wants one thing, and that’s a state ring. I love the type of energy that was in the air that day, it really made me push my limits and do my best. “

The fleet-footed Hopkins was also a defensive back and receiver for the Broken Bow Savage football team.

Cameron has now graduated and has concrete plans for his post-high-school life and career, but does not rule out athletics in his future.

“I would love to become an occupational safety engineer and that’s what I plan on becoming after high school, but with any opportunities to run or play sports again I’d be more than grateful to take.”

Hopkins is well equipped for the rigorous study required to obtain a degree in safety/engineering. His attitude and approach to preparation will aid him in the classroom as well as it did on the track. Head Broken Bow track coach Duce Lee praised Hopkins’ work ethic.

“He’s and ideal athlete; a hard worker and overachiever.”

Wherever Cameron Hopkins’ feet take him in the future, he’ll always remember and cherish the days when they propelled him to the limits for the Broken Bow Savage track team.

“Track will forever have a special place in my heart and I’d do anything to relive those days with my teammates.”
