Coalgate’s Josi and Jaci Lackey – Athlete spotlight – presented by safe Guard insurance solutions and cash first

On the softball field, on the high school track and in the classroom, it’s not easy to tell who you’re watching or talking to whenever you first meet Josi and Jaci Lackey.  The identical twins at Coalgate High School would say there’s a difference between the pair.

“Everyone always says that Jaci is the sweeter person and that I’m more direct,” said Josi.

Her sister is quick to point out another small difference.

“I was the first born,” said Jaci with a chuckle. “I won that race by just over a minute.”

Both girls play in the outfield on the Lady Wildcats softball team and in track compete in the same events where their times in the 100 and 300 hurdles were an eyelash apart but allowed Josi to qualify for state in the 100 hurdles as well as the younger of the two earning a medal stand appearance with a fifth place finish in the long jump at the Class 3A state championships.

“I was nerve wracking but having Jaci there to hold my blocks was a unique opportunity to share in the moment,” confirm Josi.

Coalgate girls track coach Garrett Eaton admits sometimes he has to look twice to tell the twins apart.

“They compliment each other,” said Eaton. “I can usually hear Jaci’s laugh and know whose who. One thing for sure they’re both natural athletes and will continue to push each other to continue to succeed.

Josi will choose seafood for her favorite food while Jaci prefers Mexican food to be on the menu.  In the classroom, both girls admit their favorite subject is math.

Entering their junior year in high school this fall, the two may have a career plan to stay together in the future.

“I’m planning a career in some field of nursing,” said Jaci. “She (Josi) plans for a career in obstetrics. You never know it might just happen.”

What will happen is that Josi and Jaci Lackey will continue to compete, have fun and share their joy with their friends trying to make things better for everyone everyday.
