Coalgate Football Preview – Presented By Safeguard Insurance Solutions

COALGATE WILDCATS
Coach – NATHAN HILL

OFFENSE
With almost the entire team returning from 2020, the Wildcats are more than ready to get back on the field. The offense brings back 10 starters from last season, including six players that have the potential for a big year. On the offensive line, Memphis Barnett (6-2, 280, Sr.), Lionel Gonzalez (6-0, 275, Sr.), and Caleb Perry (6-2, 310, Jr.) all return for the Wildcats after starting in 2020. Expect this offensive line to be very strong and consistent, not allowing many to get past them. At wide receiver is Austin Lynch (6-2, 170, Sr.) who comes into the upcoming season with confidence to get more touches, after recording 360 yards and three touchdowns last season. Playing various positions for the Wildcats is Gavin Blue (6-1, 180, Sr.). Blue lined up at running back and wide receiver last year and might even see some time at quarterback in the near future. Blue rushed for 100 yards and added 135 yard receiving and a touchdown. Expect to see Trey Wilkinson (6-1, 200, Sr.) be back at the running back position for the Wildcats after posting 420 yards and three touchdowns as a junior.

DEFENSE
Just like the offense, the defense also brings back 10 starters. While Blue, Wilkinson, and Perry play offense, they’ll line up on defense as well. Blue will play defensive back after recording 46 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions last year. Wilkinson will play linebacker after recording 45 tackles, and an interception in 2020. Perry will line up on the defensive line and recorded 50 tackles a season ago. Joining them are Jody Trevathan (5-10, 170, Jr.) who plays linebacker alongside Wilkinson, and posted 65 tackles and a forced fumble. Patrick Kingston (5-11, 160, Sr.) will play corner for the Wildcats, after recording having four interceptions in his junior year. Another player to watch is Trevin Loudermilk (6-2, 280, Sr.) who plays on the defensive line. He tallied 45 tackles, four sacks, and three forced fumbles.
