Sulphur Bulldogs Basketball 2021 Preview – Presented By David Earsom and Larry Keenan of Shelter Insurance

BOYS

Coach: Grant Bates

20-21 Record: 9-12

Following a 9-12 season last year, Sulphur head coach Grant Bates is optimistic about this year’s team. “We are excited about this group of guys. They play together and improve each day,” Bates says. Part of the reason for the optimism is the experience Bates and the Bulldogs return. Sulphur’s roster includes seven seniors and four juniors. Leading Sulphur on the floor is point guard Mace Mobly (6-1, Sr.). Bates says Mobly is a smart, competitive leader. Another key player for Sulphur is center Cade Claggett (6-0, Sr.). Bates says Claggett is reliable with a great attitude. An underclassman Bates is excited about is Trace Todd. “Trace is a talented and passionate player that can be a spark for our team this year,” says Bates. Other players expected to contribute for the Sulphur Bulldogs are Garrett Stinson (6-1, Sr.), Brayzen Slaughter (6-1, Sr.), Brandon Lloyd (6-3, Sr.), Jackson Boles (6-0, Sr.), Carson Phillips (5-8, Sr.), Davion Willis (6-0, Jr.), Carson Holeman (6-2, Jr.), Ashton Billings (5-8, Jr.), JW Bivens (6-0, Jr.), Brytan Gaddy (6-0, So.), Marcus Smith (6-2, So.), and Daigen Leming (6-0, So.).

GIRLS

Coach: Toby Todd

20-21 Record: 9-11

Like the boys team, the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs are returning several players from last year and head coach Toby Todd is incredibly optimistic about this year’s team. “We have a ton of players back from last year,” says Todd. “Last year we got shut down multiple times but we had a great summer going undefeated in our summer team camps. I am excited for this group of hard working girls.” Leading Sulphur this year is Brinn Flood (6-0, Jr.). Todd says Flood is a versatile player that can create mismatches with her size. Another key junior for Sulphur is Randie Rogers. “Randie has worked hard on her game and spends a ton of time in the gym,” says Todd. “She does not receive enough praise for her work ethic and leadership qualities.” One of the senior leaders on this team is Carlee Cole (5-8, Sr.). Todd says Cole is a great leader and cares about every single one of her teammates. Kinzi Adkinson is expected to be a key underclassman for Sulphur. “Kinzi is very athletic and has great mental toughness,” says Todd. Other key contributors for Sulphur include Ally Dixon (5-8, Sr.), Kinley Gentry (5-10, Sr.), Charlie Rogers (5-10, Sr.), Jenna Farrell (5-10, Sr.), and Hailey McMillian (5-5, Jr.).
