Tushka’s Cole Simpson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Excel Therapy

As his favorite basketball player Steph Curry closes in on breaking the NBA record for the most made 3-point baskets, Tushka High School senior Cole Simpson is closing in on joining the 1,000 point club as the four-year starter continues to light up the scoreboard and lead his team to victory.

Simpson, who averaged 42 percent from behind the arc last season as the Tigers leading scorer totaling 13.2 points per game, would just as soon be recognized for his defensive skills.

“For me, it’s all about teamwork; all out effort everyday, in practice as well as in games. That includes going hard on defense,” explained Simpson who wears jersey number-4. “When I step on the court, I try to do whatever it takes for our team to get the win. Defense creates offense so making a stop or forcing a turnover is just as important as me scoring points.”

Hearing Simpson’s comments brings a big smile to the face of Tushka head coach, Chris Zike.

“That’s just proof of Cole’s high basketball IQ,” smiled the Tigers mentor. “What makes him so effective as a scorer is that he knows how to move without the basketball. He’s not just a stop and pop shooter. Cole will take it to the rim and finish.”

Off the court, Simpson’s approach is much the same.

“It’s nothing special. It’s all about doing things the right way, the first time without excuses,” he confirmed. “Character is who you are and what you do. For me that’s setting a standard through hard work by helping others and try to set an example for others to follow.”

And in the coach’s word, the proof is in the final results.

“Cole Simpson defines what being a Tushka Tiger is all about, doing things right expecting nothing in return,” said Zike.
