Eagletown’s Gunner Farley – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Pine Cellular

Talk about a guy with an appropriate name for his sport, Eagletown junior Gunner Farley put together a double-double season in 2020, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds a game. The three-year starter can play just about any position on the floor according to his coach Patrick Trowbridge.

“Gunner is one of our top scorers back from last year. He’s a good ball handler for a guy his size (6-7) and over the last year he’s really improved on using his height as an advantage,” said Trowbridge. “He’s found that even if he can’t block a shot, he can force a player to alter his shot and miss. On offense, he’s improved his ability to move in traffic in the lane.”

Farley says he got his start early in basketball.

“I had a stepbrother who was All-State player and I started playing in third grade and have loved the game ever since,” said Gunner. “I’ve always liked to watch Kevin Durant play because I feel like I play a lot like him.”

Though he’s only a junior, Farley plays a leadership role for the Eagles leading by example, according to Trowbridge while Gunner has his own thoughts on the qualities of a good leader.

“A good leader is someone everybody can look up to and respect, said Farley who also pitches and plays first base for the Eagles baseball team.

Farley credits his dad and Trowbridge as two main motivators in his life that have had the biggest impacts on him. One of his big highlights so far in high school has been getting his first dunk over another player last year. Trowbridge says Farley will probably hit the 1000 career point mark in this, his junior year, and Farley himself wants to improve on his double-double figures even more to 25 points and 12 rebounds a game.
