Idabel Warriors Basketball Preview 2021 – Presented By Pine Cellular

BOYS

Coach: Burtchal Griffin

20-21: 13-12

Young and exciting are just two words that should give notice to opponents that the Warriors will be tough team to beat as head coach Burtchal Griffin’s roster has one senior Tae Cooper (5-10, Sr.) a proven 3-point sharpshooter surrounded by an athletic lineup of underclassmen. The inside strength includes Christian Moore (6-3, Jr.) who averaged 10 points and 8.5 boards per game will take to the court with quick and pesky guards Cordavious Hankins (6-0, Fr.), Dylan Parker (6-1, So.), Cole Grant (5-8, Jr.), Jalen Wright (6-0, Jr.), Matrail Lopes (5-11, Fr.), Rasee Raney (5-11, Fr.), Peyton Jefferson (6-1, Jr.) and Karson Sain (6-2, So.).  “Christian is our best scorer and rebounder and each of the guards can score as well as defend with pressure,” said Griffin. “We’re going to be exciting to watch.

GIRLS

Coach: Kayla Denton

The Lady Warriors will not easily forget last season. They were knocked out of the postseason in the Area Tournament, but head coach Kayla Denton says that her squad is ready to get back on the floor and make amends for last season. “We had a great run last year,” Denton said. “But losing in the playoffs put a bad taste in our mouth that we have not been able to get rid of. We have been working hard to be able to reach our full potential this season. We had a taste of success that we will use as motivation to make it further than last season. We have grown closer together.” Playing in the post will be Mary Carden (6-6, So.), who has a great work ethic and is a gym rat. She is a great shot blocker that can defend shooters, as well as off the dribble. Senior guard Jaylee Lopez (5-4, Sr.) has a motor that is nonstop and is a vocal leader on the team. She can drive, shoot, or kick out the ball to the open person. A’Niyah Winston (5-7, Sr.) averaged eleven points per game last season and looks to increase her impact this season. She is very athletic and can do just about anything the team needs her to do. She has the next level. Other players to keep an eye out for are Alexzandria Thompson (5- 3, Sr.) and Mercades Lopez (Fr.).
