Talihina’s Nolan Baughman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Pine Cellular

Crediting the impact of family and the support of coaches and teammates, Nolan Baughman continues to try to give back to the Talihina community.

“My mom and dad, by their real life examples taught me the importance of discipline and being a good person,” said the 2022 senior in a voice of appreciation. “Playing sports, whether its football, basketball or baseball has given me a big boost of self confidence.”

It’s that appreciation, that drives Baughman to strive to make things better for others, on and off the court.

“Whatever I’m doing, whatever sport I’m playing, I try to play with heart and intensity in order that my efforts will help everyone else reach their goals.”

Defining himself as quiet and smart, Baughman, who maintains a 4.2 weighted GPA and owns a 28 score on the ACT exam, also enjoys calculating the final outcome.

“Playing quarterback in football, I had to know every play. In basketball, I have to know my position as well as my teammates assignments. Both require a calculating vision of knowing what to expect before it happens,” explained Baughman. “I think that describes my personality. I like to think stuff through before I make any decision. I want my actions and decisions to result in success for everyone.”

Talihina coach Taggart Lockhart expects that kind of approach from his point guard.

“Nolan makes our offense and defense work. Not only is he a good scorer, he’s an even better teammate,” replied Lockhart. “His decision making reflects his basketball IQ which makes him a great leader, on and off the court. He’s a difference maker in every thing he does.”

Baughman, who has been playing basketball since he was in the first grade, likes the spirit of this year’s basketball team.

“We’re a close knit group that’s committed to each other 100 percent relying upon each other to make things happen. All for one, that’s what it means to be a Talihina Golden Tiger.”
