Tushka’s Fisher Hurt – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Stuteville Ford of Atoka

By Derrick Smith

Teams invest a lot of time and energy in order to be the best that they can be. And they are all working towards the same goal, no matter what sport they compete in. They want to be able to hoist the championship trophy at the end of the season. Fisher Hurt and his teammates were able to do that recently and he says that it was a great experience.

“There is no doubt what the highlight of my career is,” he said. “Our basketball team won the 2022 boys state championship, and it was awesome. We had some close games that went down to the last shot, but we fought hard and brought home the gold.”

Hurt will be a senior at Tushka in the fall. Along with being a member of the basketball team, he also plays baseball for the Tigers. He says that being his best on the field or court takes a lot of work and effort.

“For me to be successful in sports, it has taken several extra hours after practice,” he said. “There is also a lot of hard work and focusing on the fundamentals. My teammates and coaches have also been there to help me along the way. I keep myself motivated by knowing that I need to do better for the Lord, heeding His call, and working to contribute to the overall success of the outcome.”

There is another group of people that Fisher says plays a big role in his team’s success, even though they may not even step on the court.

“I’m proud of my school and community for the support they bring us,” he stated. “Also, our coaches for the hard work they put in, and especially my teammates. Not only are they my teammates but also my brothers in Christ. There is no way Tushka would be the school and team it is without them.”

Away from sports, Hurt was also an FCCLA state officer, a member of the National Honor Society, Tigers for Christ, and the gifted and talented program.
