Benefiting from the examples of others, Alanna Williams values the importance of being a positive influence both on and off the basketball court.

“It’s all about maintaining a positive approach, no matter the circumstances in life or the score in the game. Always push yourself to higher limits of achievement while encouraging your teammates to strive for greatness,” said Williams who plays a vital role in the continued success for Hartshorne girls basketball. “When I was a freshman, Ashton Hackler was my role model. She showed me by example the right things to do. It’s why I’m proud to wear the same number-4 jersey.”

The 5-7 shooting guard for the Lady Miners is a player that her coach calls a game changer.

“Alanna averaged 14 points per game as the point guard in our offense. Because of her basketball IQ and athleticism, opponents have trouble staying in front of her one on one,” explained Hartshorne head coach, Shane Hackler. “She’s an influencer on the floor and in the classroom. Her disciplined efforts make her a leader among her peers.”

Basketball is the sport loved most by Williams who first played competitive basketball in kindergarten.

“Since I was in diapers, I’ve had a basketball in my hands,” chuckled Williams. “Playing basketball is my comfort zone.”

While listening to the Miley Cyrus hit, The Climb, to find her pre-game hype, Alanna can also hear the inspirational advice of her dad’s voice to bring a smile to her face and the will to stay strong.

“Never give up what you’re going for…always be that better person. My dad’s life examples and his plain and simple words give me constant encouragement and the energy to make a difference in everything I do,” Alanna said with conviction. “In all things put God first and things will work out. I’ll stand by that everyday.”

Life is an adventure and in order to achieve your goals, you have to encounter obstacles. It’s something that Alanna Williams understands and has a game plan for success.

“No matter how long it takes you, just don’t give up and you’ll get there. And by taking time to lend a helping hand, your example will create success for others too.”
