Quinton’s Lila Gragg – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Excel Therapy

Lila Gragg is a multi-sport athlete at Quinton High School. She has put in a lot of time and effort to grow into the athlete that she is today, but she also knows that she could not have done it without some special people in her life.

“My parents are my biggest supporters and almost like my coaches,” she said. “Every time I mess up or do something wrong, my dad usually corrects or helps me fix the situation. My mom is usually the one to give me a little pep talk and bring my spirits up. Coach Davis has also had an impact on me. Since he has started as our coach, he is always so positive and tries to cheer us up when there’s something going on. Also, he coaches us on how to fix the problem and move past the mistake.”

As a junior, Gragg plays both softball and basketball for Quinton. During her athletic career, she has made some great memories both on and off the field and court, but she has one moment that stands out as her favorite.

“I would say that the highlight of my career so far would be my first home run as a sophomore,” she said. “I was running home and soon as I touched home plate I could see my sister right there waiting to congratulate me. It was her senior year and that was a really special moment to share with her.”

The softball coach for Quinton, Lisa Hilburn, says that while Gragg is an outstanding player, she is also a great example for the rest of her team.

“Lila just loves to play,” coach Hilburn said. “She competes at a high level and is willing to play anywhere or do whatever is needed to see her teammates and team succeed. She is willing to not only be in the circle but also behind the plate.”

While working hard is important so that she can be her best when she steps on the field, Lila knows that she is not just representing herself when she plays.

“When I step out onto the field or court, I try my best to show the other team respect, have good sportsmanship, and giving it my all to represent my school and community as well as I possibly can.”
