Rattan Rams Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Pine Cellular

Boys
Coach: Michael Clay
21-22 Record: 22-8

After getting bounced out in the area tournament last year, the Rattan Rams have a chip on their shoulder and the talent to do something about it as they enter the 2022 season. “We return all five starters, the most of any in our class,” said head coach Michael Clay. “I think we should be a top three team and a contender for the state championship this year.” The guy who makes it all happen for the Rams is senior Cale Clay. “He makes us go and creates offense for everyone,” said coach Clay. “He’s a pass-first point guard but did surpass the 1000-point career mark last year. He’s been an all-conference pick all three years and has led the team in all offensive categories the past two years. He’s the hardest working and most disciplined player I have ever coached as well as being the top student in his class.”

Another player the Rams will rely on is Jace May who will battle on the inside for Rattan. “He’s a hard-nosed kid who will guard post players much bigger than him all year and hold his own. He’s also a good student of the game,” said Clay. Defense and rebounding are key elements of the game along with scoring and the Rams look to James Childers to fill that role. “He’s not one of our go-to guys on offense but he can score. He’ll usually guard the other team’s best player and is a good rebounder,” said Clay. Logan Smith returns with a good shooting eye and is someone that can change a game in a hurry and also returning is Keller Shockey who is the Ram’s spirit. “He’s a great kid who puts in the time to be his best. He never complains about playing time and would be a starter on most other teams in our class,” stated Clay. Look for the Rams to make even more noise in Class A this year at playoff time.
