Southeast Oklahoma Basketball & Wrestling Athletes To Watch – Presented by Excel Therapy

BOYS BASKETBALL

Payton Battle – Hartshorne Using his 6’6 frame to an advantage, Battle is a force in the paint on both ends of the court plus can score from the perimeter.

Bo Dacus – Leflore Bo is the only returning starter from last season. This team gets its energy from him. Will make plays on both ends of the floor.

Lewis Woodmore – McAlester Great kid and athlete he’s our 2nd leading returning scorer will be a big part of how much success we have this year and will provide Senior leadership for us this year .

Denver Hamilton – Red Oak Denver is an excellent athlete and led the team in scoring last season with 13.4 ppg. Although a signee with Seminole Jr. College for baseball, he is also an excellent basketball player. He is able to score both from the perimeter and off the bounce and is very quick defensively.

Troy Clark – Wilburton Troy really came into his own last season after the Christmas break. He lead us in rebounding after the break at 10 per game. He is very athletic and plays best going to the rim.

Andrew Hughes – Ada Andrew is the ultimate competitor and an even better teammate. He is always the voice of reason. When adversity hits, he is always there to motivate and encourage his teammates. He leads by example and has become the vocal leader a team needs as well. He is an outstanding on-ball defender and takes on the assignment each game guarding the other team’s best player.

Dylan Reed and Tallen Bagwell – Roff Dylan is a very good all-around player and can do it all for his team. He is a big guard that can score at all three levels and defend all positions as well. Tallen is a touch matchup at 6-foot-6. He is very athletic and can score inside and outside.

Walker Chandler – Stratford Walker averaged 12.5 points, shot 48% from the field, 45% from the three-point line, and led the team in assists his sophomore season. He puts a lot of work in on his own time and has become an outstanding student leader.

Carter Perry – Vanoss Carter can score in a variety of ways. He is an underrated defender that causes problems on both ends of the floor.

Kaleb Madden – Wayne Kaleb is a 4.0 student-athlete who excels in all three sports that he plays. Last year as a junior, he averaged 17.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He scored 30 points or more, four times last season. Heading into his senior year, he has grown a couple of inches, standing at 6-foot-1 now, and has a solid frame. Kaleb is ambidextrous, so he can be tough to defend. He is poised for a strong senior season and is only 184 points away from scoring 1,000 career points.

Derick Fields – Wynnewood Derick is a program guy. He works hard on and off the court and he is a great teammate. He wants others to succeed and he strives to make everyone around him better. He loves the game of basketball and you can easily tell by the way he plays. He is hard-working and determined in everything he does.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Katelyn Woodruff – Canadian Katie has led the Canadian girls in most offensive and defensive categories her entire career.

Brooklyn Surginer – Hartshorne A 6’0” Sophomore forward was a move-in for the Lady Miners. Brooklyn aka Brooky is going to be a force to be reckoned with. She is tall, strong, and moves like a guard. Brooky will beat opponents to death on the inside with her physicality. She handles the ball extremely well. She can hit mid-range, 3 pointers or beat you off the dribble. She is going to be a big player for the Lady Miners for next few years.

Paige Igou – Kiowa If she is sound with the basketball and scores some we will be tough to beat. Her attitude and effort are infectious. If she is positive it impacts the whole team.

Madigan Griffith – McAlester If you look up in the dictionary what a leader is it will have Madigan’s picture there. She goes into her senior season looking to take on a bigger role offensively and continue the success that we’ve had.

Tegan Tilley – Wilburton Tough nose player. Very good defensively. Good off the dribble. Great energy. Leads by example.

Gracie Holt – Achille Gracie is a sophomore that did not start as a freshman but has the ability to have a really big year. She is a high-IQ player that has the potential to be a very good defender.

Emily Robinson – Caddo Emily has committed to playing basketball at Oral Roberts University. She averages just over 25 points per game. She will be a big-time player this season.

Aubrey Manion – Coalgate Aubrey works hard and is an outstanding teammate. She does whatever the team needs and she is an all-around good athlete.

Maya Dodson – Durant A very versatile player, Dodson does a little bit of everything for Durant.

WRESTLING

Makenna Manning – McAlester Makenna does a lot for the newly established girl’s wrestling program. She’s always recruiting more girls, trying to get people to come out to duals, and she’s always making her teammates do things right. I’ve witnessed her on more than one occasion pull her teammate across the line after they tried to short it during conditioning. She’s shown a lot of improvement from last year.

Kenneth Carter – McAlester Kenneth Carter never stopped working. He was one match away from qualifying as a freshman. We took him as an alternate because one of the wrestlers above him got injured. He got to step on the state mats and I think that made him hungry. He wrestled Freestyle & Greco all summer and even qualified for nationals. We sent him across the nation to compete and he came back at veteran of the sport. He’s the toughest kid in the room and hasn’t been taken down all year (except by coaches). He’s going to pull off some upsets.

UNSUNG HEROES

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cylas Baker – Hartshorne Hard worker and a team player.

Luke Herrell – Leflore Luke is the type of kid every coach wants. He hustles all over the place no matter how long or little he is in the game.

Evan Black – McAlester Great kid with Major upside he is willing to do what’s ask and always works hard and will be another key piece to the success of the Buffs this year.

Tanner King – Red Oak Tanner is a really great athlete and a super hard worker. He has worked to improve his scoring ability and is the heart of the teams defense. He is only 5’10” but can and will guard any position on the court that we need defended.

Bryson Miller – Wilburton Bryson is a very quick guard who will run the point at times and play all three guard positions. He will guard the other team’s best player. Works hard and never complains.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dalaina Watson – Canadian Dalaina is always going to be the hardest worker on the floor in every game. She is as a tough as they come.

Jayda Moore – Hartshorne DA returning starter that can shoot from anywhere on the floor. Midrange or 3-Pointer it does not matter. Jayda is versatile and has the endurance to run defenders into the ground. She is never in the same spot, constantly moving. Don’t let her small size fool you, she is sneaky finding ways to get rebounds and steals.

Lilly Autrey & Katelynn Knight – McAlester These two have been HUGE contributors over the last 4 years and go into their senior seasons with something to prove.
