Broken Bow’s Seth Kemp – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Pine Cellular

By Derrick Smith

Success is something that all athletes strive for and work hard to achieve. While success may mean something different to each athlete, there is work required to get there. Seth Kemp says that is true in sports and everyday life.

“It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be successful at anything in life,” he said. “But the work will be worth it when you reach your goals.”

Kemp is a senior at Broken Bow High School, where he plays outfield and second base for the baseball team. He is also a member of the powerlifting team. Seth says that baseball has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember.

“I have been a member of the baseball team for four years,” he said. “But I have played the game since I have been able to walk.”

Many people have been helped Seth along his journey to success, but he says that there are a couple that stand out.

“The biggest influence in my life is probably my dad,” he said. “He has taught me a lot about life skills and to put all of my efforts into anything I do. He tells me that if I am going to do something, to always give it 100 percent. Another person that has made an impact is my Ag teacher, Mr. Reavis. He has taught me a lot of useful life skills and has introduced me to a lot of new things in Future Farmers of America.”

Seth has experienced some great moments out on the baseball field, but he says that there is one play that will stick in his mind for a long time.

“The highlight of my career happened this season,” he said. “We were playing Sallisaw and there was a ground ball hit to me in center field. There was a guy on first base that was trying to make it to third base on that grounder. I threw him out at third base. It was a great feeling.”

Along with athletics, Kemp is also a member of student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, academic team, FFA, Oklahoma Honor Society, Gifted and Talented, and National Honor Society.
