VYPE: What were your personal goals this year and how is the season going?
John: My goal for myself this season is to do everything with the team in mind. Each day when I show up to the field, my goal is to do everything that I can to help my team be successful. I also want to have a positive impact on my teammates’ lives in my time playing with them. I’m proud of the way that our team has played through the regular season. We’ve given ourselves a chance to make a run in the postseason and I look forward to what God has in store for us.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
John: Our first-round win in the Kingston tournament over Broken Bow was some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing baseball. It was a great extra innings win for our team and we got to celebrate afterwards by going to Lake Texhoma for some team bonding. It was a day filled with lots of laughs.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
John: Coach Coker is my favorite coach/teacher I’ve had. He’s a very baseball-minded individual and I love getting to talk about the game with him. He’s been around the game for a long time, and I enjoy picking up on the little aspects of baseball that he mentions that go unnoticed by many people. He also knows how to have a good time out on the field.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
John: My favorite athletic memory was probably hitting a home run on senior night. We had a lot of students at the game so I’m happy I could generate some fireworks for them. It’s a moment that I will remember for a long time.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
John: Zac Carrol is a teammate and a friend that I have learned a lot from. Zac and I both have meticulous cage routines and we have spent many hours in the cages alone talking about just about everything. Whether it be hitting advice or a deep spiritual conversation, I valued what Zac said. I’m thankful for the time I’ve gotten to spend with Zac.
VYPE: Who on your team has the best impression of your coach and who says the funniest things during games?
John: Caden Ross and Jack Morris have the best impressions of coach, and Jagger Cauldwell is someone I can always look to for a laugh. Jagger is always doing something funny.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
John: I would take a trip and watch a game at all 30 MLB stadiums in a summer. That’s something that is on my bucket list. I would take my dad and grandpa with me for that trip.
VYPE: If we gave you 500 dollars and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?
John: If I had 500 dollars to spend in a day, I would buy my family a nice dinner, then spend the remaining money on fishing gear.
VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.
John: My first thank you is to God for giving me such supportive people in my life. Thank you to my family for being there for whatever I need, and to my friends and teammates who have made my time at Ada so enjoyable.
