Kieler Young is a senior at Broken Bow High School and plays basketball for the Savages’ basketball team. Young is one of the most prolific scorers in Broken Bow history and has had a fantastic start to his senior year.
Recently Young surpassed 1,500 career points and has scored over 40 points on multiple occasions. For Young the key to his success on the court has been hard work and dedication to his craft.
“I think just working hard and staying consistent has been the key factor,” Young said. “I’ve always tried to be in the gym as much as I can.”
While Young can obviously score the ball at will, he can do a lot more than just put the ball in the hoop. He’s always working to get his teammates involved.
“I think a part of my game that is overlooked is my passing,” Young said. “I feel like I can make some good passes to set up my teammates to get easy buckets.”
As a senior, Young provides leadership in Broken Bow. The younger players on the team often turn to Young for advice.
“I tell the underclassmen to work hard every single day,” Young said. “Don’t take anything for granted because it goes by super fast.”
Young practices what he preaches and aspires to play the game with the same mindset and work ethic as NBA superstars and local Oklahoma legends Trae Young, Russell Westbrook, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
“Whenever I go to the gym I make 500 shots before I can leave,” Young said.
As Young continues his senior year at Broken Bow he wants to be remembered as one of the best to ever put on a Savage uniform before continuing his playing career and education next year in college.
