VYPE: Who is the biggest influence on your life?
Maddux: My biggest influence is my cousin, Dawson Muck. When I want to quit, I think about him and how he fights daily with the injury he experienced playing college baseball and now is a paraplegic. He is constantly encouraging me to do my best and enjoy every minute.
VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?
Maddux: My third-grade teacher, Mrs. Teri Agee. She challenged me to be the best I could be in any subject and still is one of my biggest supporters in all of my sports and activities.
VYPE: What does it mean to represent your school and community when you play?
Maddux: Playing for Sulphur means going out, competing, being humble, and being the best version of yourself every play. Playing in front of the community of Sulphur is very encouraging and gives you so much adrenaline from receiving huge support from the crowds that show up for a game/meet.
VYPE: How do you keep yourself motivated?
Maddux: My biggest motivation is the thought of losing.
VYPE: What has been the highlight moment of your career?
Maddux: The highlight of my high school career so far was beating Plainview on the last play of the last game of our season this year.
VYPE: Opponent that you enjoy beating?
Maddux: The opponent I like beating the most is Davis. It’s always fun to beat them because they are our biggest rivals.
VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working against the most in practice?
Maddux: My favorite teammate to work with is Baer Webb, my drilling partner in wrestling. He keeps me going and has helped me get way better this wrestling season.
VYPE: Who is your favorite person you follow on social media?
Maddux: David Goggins, he’s the best motivator out there.
VYPE: Anything else you want to share?
Maddux: I am very proud to be a part of the first Sulphur Wrestling team in about 17 years to make it to dual state and the first team ever to make dual state semi-finals.
