Idabel’s boys golf team has a chance to be one of the best in the state this year.
“Our boys team has two seniors that have played all four years,” Idabel head coach Madelyn Lehr said. “I am very excited for these boys to finish their high school careers strong.”
Cole Grant, also a star on the track for Idabel, is an “all-around great athlete,” Lehr said, and will be the Warriors’ frontrunner on the golf course this spring.
“[Grant] sets the example for the others on the team,” Lehr said. “He has shown remarkable level of dedication and passion for the game, consistently striving to improve his skills and push himself to new heights.”
“I really just want to improve and the main goal is to qualify for state,” Grant said.
“Track makes things hard because a lot of the tournaments are on track meet days.”
Devin Finney is the team’s other senior.
“The rest of the team is young with two sophomores and one freshman,” Lehr said. “They are just beginners but showing lots of promise and determination.”
The freshman, Ronald Deramus, has so far proved to be a promising talent. “Ronald has played some when he was younger and is just now getting back into the game.
With his background, I believe that Ronald will be a player to watch as he gets older.”
