HARTSHORNE MINERS
Coach: BILL WILLIAMS
7-4
OFFENSE
With the loss of just three seniors overall, the Hartshorne Miners seem to be in a position to make a further run into the playoffs as the 2023 football campaign rolls around. “This group of young men had to play a lot of downs last year with just three seniors and we believe that experience will help us be in the conversation come November,” said veteran head coach Bill Williams. Another reason Williams is optimistic lies in his offensive coordinator Tyler Lindley who was a successful quarterback in his playing days at Hartshorne. “Tyler understands what it takes to win at the highest level,” said Williams. There’s another Lindley that is one of 11 returning starters on offense that will have a more direct impact on things in Brett Lindley (6-2, 175, Jr.) at wide receiver. Barking out the signals again this year for the Miners will be Jackson Moody (6-0, 185, Sr.), a VYPE TOP 100 nominee, who passed and ran for around 1000 yards each and a total of 31 touchdowns in 2022.
“Jackson is our quarterback, free safety, punter and special teams’ player that made over half of our tackles on kickoffs last year,” said Williams. “He’s a team player that’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the Miners win.” Acetin Rowell (6-0, 170, So.) and Kelby Thomason (5-10, 205, Sr.) will team up again at running back while Treyce Morgan (6-0, 215, Sr.) will anchor the line and Augustus Miller (6-0, 160, Jr.) will join Lindley at wide receiver.
DEFENSE
The Miners will be a bit younger on defense but still return nine starters from last year’s team that made the Class A playoffs. Moody will roam the secondary once again along with Miller while Rowell will be at linebacker along with Kannon Osier (5-9, 165, Jr.). Cody Sanders (5-11, 211, Jr.) and Malachi Sunagoowie (6-0, 230, So.) will be the main line of defenders up front for Hartshorne. Williams is also looking forward to the debut of freshman Brandon Parajo. “Brandon is a very gifted and hungry young football player and we’re looking forward to what he can do at the high school level. He’s a state powerlifting champion, lifting 1000 pounds as an eighth grader.” Williams overall philosophy to victory is simple. “On offense we believe if we can control the ball, we can control the game. On defense everything we do is out of simplicity to play fast with zero thinking and attack, attack, attack. This defense is 100 percent the mentality of our school, our town, and our team.”
