Ok Ag Credit FFA Spotlight

When this junior from Hartshorne High School said she has been involved in FFA her entire
life, she wasn’t kidding. She received her first animal, a pig, when she was only four years
old. At that time, she was a member of the 4-H Club, then joined FFA when she was in the
eighth grade.
“FFA has always been a huge part of my life. My dad (Jeff Irwin) is the one who got me
involved. He basically raised me in a show barn. He was so excited my sophomore year
because I had the opportunity to be a chapter officer. When I succeed my dad is always
there to cheer me on,” said Irwin.
Now the chapter secretary, Irwin said there are many things she enjoys about FFA.
“What I enjoy the most about FFA is the community of people and the life skills you learn. I
couldn’t be more thankful for the friends FFA has given me. My Ag teachers encouraged me
to go to FFA alumni leadership camp. I was skeptical at first. That camp taught me many
important things, to be yourself and to get out of your comfort zone. I walked out of that
camp with lots of new friends and a new outlook on life. You wouldn’t think something so
small like a camp could change you, but it can,” said Irwin.
Irwin is still showing pigs and goats. Her freshman year she competed in the Greenhand
competition, and she is involved in FCCLA at school. Irwin is a member of the varsity cheer
squad as well.

“I love cheerleading because being under those Friday night lights with my team are the
moments that are unforgettable. I love singing on the bus with the girls and hyping up the
football team. My teammates aren’t just teammates they are my family. We are all super
close and the deep conversations and good laughs are memories I will never forget. I know
I can count on every single member of my team. Those late practices and blood, sweat and
tears are all worth it in the end,” said Irwin.
The junior attends Kiamichi Tech in McAlester for the biomed program and is looking
forward to attending college after she graduates from HHS.
“I plan on attending OSU for Veterinary medicine. I have a passion for animals and caring
for the sick,” said Irwin.
