Ada’s Sadie Epps – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Casey Fowler – Shelter Insurance

With basketball season upon us, Sadie Epps, a talented player from Ada High School, stands as a testament to passion, growth and camaraderie.

As she reflects on her journey, she credits Coach Yves Saintelo as a pivotal figure. “He has been such a role model for me, and he always pushes me to be the best player and person that I can be,” she said.

“He’s a dad figure towards me, and he always wants the best for me. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today if it hadn’t been for him.”

The senior girls on the team have played a crucial role in shaping Sadie’s experience: “The senior girls on our team are some of the most supportive people I’ve ever met. They welcomed me right away onto their team and have had such an impact on me.”

Turning to her roots, Sadie’s favorite teacher isn’t just an educator but her mom. “I was homeschooled up until last year, and she taught me so much and always made learning a priority.”

As the off-season unfolded, Sadie immersed herself in preparation. “I’ve been taking three lessons a week with Coach Yves, working out on my own six days a week, getting in the gym trying to get stronger,” she said.

Basketball, for Sadie, is more than a sport; it’s a school of life. “My sport has taught me how to trust others like my teammates, which has led to trusting people outside of my sport. It’s also taught me that being disciplined in my sport makes me a better player, which makes me want to be disciplined in life.”

Among the many memories, everything about Ada holds a special place for Sadie. “From Coach Jennings to the people here to my teammates; everyone is a family. It’s been a really special experience.”

As the upcoming season unfolds, Sadie sets her sights on both team and individual goals: “Team-wise, I hope we mesh well and compete hard and qualify for State. Individually, my goal is to be the best leader and teammate that I can and be whatever my team needs me to be.”

Beyond high school, Sadie envisions a future on the basketball court in college. “My plans after high school are to go play basketball in college!”
