In the small town of Stuart, where the love for basketball runs deep, Dre’Von Colbert stands out as a passionate player with dreams as big as the game itself.
Recalling the mentors who shaped his basketball journey, Dre’Von shares, “It’s hard to pick a favorite coach. I’ve had many coaches over the years with AAU and school ball, but all have had an impact. Some were physically and others were more on the mental side.”
Basketball is often a testament to camaraderie and Dre’Von acknowledge the unwavering support of his wingman, Gabe Clayton: “Ever since freshman year, we’ve been there for each other, on and off the court.”
Transitioning from the court to the classroom, Dre’Von fondly reminisces about Mrs. Patterson, his favorite teacher. “You never see her in a bad mood, always stops to ask how you’re doing, and gives you a hug.”
As the off-season becomes a crucial period of preparation, Dre’Von and his teammates engage in diverse activities. “We played a lot of baseball during the off-season and worked out,” he said. “It kept us on our feet and moving so we didn’t get out of shape.” The emphasis is clear – maintaining peak physical condition to face the upcoming challenges head-on.
Beyond the confines of the court, Dre’Von extracts profound life lessons from the sport he loves. “Patience and brotherhood are the strengths I’ve gained. They are qualities that I use daily in every aspect of my life.”
Basketball isn’t merely a game for Dre’Von; it’s a repository of cherished memories: “Getting to do what I love with my guys. I try to cherish every moment the best I can because I know I won’t get to do it forever.”
Peering into the future, Dre’Von expresses a clear goal for the upcoming season – winning a gold ball. Anticipating the matchups, Dre’Von’s excitement peaks at the thought of facing the team in the state finals.
Looking beyond high school, Dre’Von reveals plans for his future: “I have plans to go to nursing school at East Central University.”
