9 Questions with Davis’ Spencer Clinton – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Vision Bank

VYPE: What inspired you to start playing your sport?

Spencer Clinton: My brothers inspired me to start playing sports.

VYPE: How has being part of a team influenced your personal growth and character development?

SC: Being a part of a team has helped me understand what being a leader is. I have grown as a person significantly in the past year because of my team and the responsibility of being a senior.

VYPE: Are there any specific rituals or routines you follow before a game or competition to prepare yourself?

SC: I do not like to share my rituals or routines because of superstition.

VYPE: Can you tell us a bit about your background, both in academics and sports?

SC: I have played baseball, basketball and football for four years and have maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout high school.

VYPE: Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your high school sports career that stands out to you?

SC: My most memorable achievement is when I hit a homerun to put my team in the lead to win the district championship game.

VYPE: How do you balance the demands of academics and athletics in your daily schedule?

SC: I always try my best to stay on top of schoolwork. When it is time for athletics I lock in and do my best.

VYPE: What role do your coaches play in your development as an athlete, and is there a particular coach who has been especially influential?

SC: My coaches play a major role in my development not only as an athlete, but as an individual. They are always pushing me to be the best version of myself on and off the field. Coach Trey Owens has been one of the greatest mentors. I am lucky to have him as a coach and someone to talk to.

VYPE: What challenges have you faced in your sports journey, and how did you overcome them?

SC: I have always struggled mentally. I tend to get in my head and beat myself up. Over the years, I have learned the only way to be better is to move on and get the next play.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

SC: My plans after high school are to attend Oklahoma State University and major in sports medicine.
