Ada’s varsity boys golf team opens the season 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 22 in the Dickson Invitational on Lake Murray Golf Club.
“We will be very young and inexperienced this year,” Ada head coach Robbie Powell says. “I have one senior, two juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen.”
Cooper Patterson, the team’s lone senior and a three-sport standout at Ada, will be Powell’s “most experienced player and athlete” when the Cougars take the first tee box.
“He (Patterson) had a pretty good season as a junior,” Powell says.
After Patterson, Powell has his eyes on freshman Cooper Rogers’ attempt to establish himself in the local golf scene in his debut season.
Carter Kenley, a junior, has “improved every year he has played for” Powell and is expected to contribute to the Cougars’ success this year.
“Carter has worked hard over the last few years on his golf game. He always tried to make the smart play on the course,” Powell says.
Junior Braxton Elkins has seen similar progress to his game.
“Braxton is also a very hard worker who can always be counted on to be at practice and work,” Powell says. “He identifies what he needs to work on and works to get better on that aspect of his game.”
The 4A state tournament is slated for May 8th and 9th at Weatherford Golf Course.
