Coach: Kyle Caufield
21-22 Record: 17-11
The Ada Cougars head into the new season with more depth and experience returning in 2022-23. Third year Cougar head coach Kyle Caufield is excited to see how his team performs with three starters returning from last year’s squad and several young players stepping into bigger roles this season after playing some varsity minutes last season. Coach Caufield wants the Cougars to play with a defensive mindset and work the ball around on offense and look to score as a committee. He expects the Cougars to be well rounded with solid depth at multiple positions.
Devon MacCollister (Jr.) returns to the lineup after an impressive showing as a sophomore. MacCollister helped lead the Cougars to regionals last season while averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds. He is a shifty guard who shoots the ball well from outside and utilizes his speed to drive into the lane for easy layups or drawing fouls.
Jack Morris (6-4, Sr.) is a veteran that can play any position on the court and make an impact with his size and speed and can score from the outside or down low. Last season Morris averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists and has a great feel for the game. Morris will be tasked with some ball handling duty which can create mismatch opportunities because of his size and ability to drive to the basket or spread the ball around to open shooters.
Also look for Andrew Hughes to have a solid season. Coach Caufield said that Hughes is a true “glue guy” for the Cougars and a great leader. Hughes keeps his teammates motivated and brings a positive attitude to the court and is always encouraging teammates to make an impact and compete at every opportunity. Cougar assistant coaches include Cody Nall and Randolph Howell.
