After reaching the Class 3A state track meet last spring as a sophomore, Chloe Summers understands there’s still work to be done in her race for the gold medal.
“After qualifying for state and seeing what it takes to make the medal stand, it gives me more motivation to create an opportunity for my teammates and me,” replied Summers who showed her speed in the 200m dash and also ran on the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays for the Davis track team. The Lady Wolves 800 and 1600m relays were also part of the state meet competition.
Chloe’s winning spirit defines the personal traits she values most while explaining herself in specific terms.
“I’m competitive but easy going at the same time. Most important to me is accountability,” Summers replied. “It applies to both my personal and sports life. Being accountable makes me a better person not only in athletics but for myself, my family and my friends.”
The influence of the examples of two older brothers as well as her parents continue to shape the strategy for Summers, who admits her favorite sport is playing basketball.
“Growing up watching my two brothers, Blake and Briston be successful in football and being a part of their success left me wanting to be more competitive and successful myself,” she said in appreciation. “My mother (Lisa) has most inspired me to be the person I am today because she supports everything I do. Mom’s my #1 fan, and shows so much love and care for our family and friends.”
Summers achievements extend beyond the basketball court or track as she continues to achieve a 4.0 GPA, all the while recalling a simple piece of advice.
“You can’t worry about mistakes,” she said with confidence. “My dad (Shane) has always told me this growing up and I think it’s important because if I worry too much it could potentially snowball from there.”
Davis basketball coach Jeff Brown likes the ever-achieving approach of the 2022 junior and is confident her best days are still ahead.
“She did a little bit of everything for our team this year, refusing to let a high ankle sprain keep her out of the lineup. Chloe led our team in 3-point and free throw percentage and rebounds,” said Brown. “She’s a strong leader the younger girls look up to and someone we can build our team around next season.”
Her coach’s words also solidify the importance of character displayed by Chloe Summers in all walks of life.
“Character plays an important role in my life because it shows who you are when no one is looking.”
And when others are watching, Chloe Summers continues to prove through hard work and perseverance that any dream can become a reality.
