VYPE went inside the dugout with Pauls Valley Panthers head coach Dillon O’Bryant to review this spring’s Panthers baseball season.
When asked for a recap of the baseball season, coach O’Bryant stated, “Our season was 7-20. The boys made major strides from game one to the end of the season, significantly more than our record would indicate.”
In terms of what coach O’Bryant expects for the next season, he stated, “Greater commitment all the way around. Let’s be better from now until December 1st, and then go from there.”
In regard to who coach O’Bryant thinks are key players for the team, he stated, “Tanner Perry is one. He did not have the season he would expect to have as a sophomore, and I know he would work harder than ever to make sure that doesn’t happen again as a junior. Another is Ryan Dennis. He was second on the team in batting average and on base percentage as a freshman. We need that same production from him next year, and also became an arm we can throw every week in district play. “
Asked what challenges Coach O’Bryant believes could happen next season, he explained, “We are losing 75 percent of our pitching from last year, so we will need several to step up and fill that void.”
