Cross country is one of those sports that you either enjoy it or you avoid it. Being a long-distance runner and competing in events with many competitors is not easy. For Sulphur High School’s Abby Salters, it’s a sport she enjoys and has been involved with since middle school.
“I am a senior now and I have been running competitively since the seventh grade,” said Salters. “What I love most about my team and teammates is our bond how close we are. We all work hard and push each other every day to be our best. They are truly my best friends. I also appreciate the positive encouragement from our coaches. Coach Heitland and Coach Neal, they care so much about us and always push us to be better than we were the day before. They are the best!”
Having the stamina and drive to compete in cross country is something Salters brings to every event. Her passion for running and for her team is why she is a great representative of Sulphur Athletics.

“English is my favorite subject in school. I love to read novels and short stories in class. I also enjoy writing,” said Salters. “In my free time I like to go on long runs and walks. I also read as much as I can.”
Salters, like other seniors, is looking ahead to life as a college student. Her goal is to compete in college while earning a degree.
“I would like to run cross country and track in college. I want to be a speech and language pathologist, but I plan on teaching while working on my masters,” said Salters.
Congratulations to Abby Salters and the entire Sulphur cross country team on a great year.
