SULPHUR BULLDOGS
Coach: COREY COLE
4-5
OFFENSE
The Bulldogs are looking to “protect the tradition and brand of football that longtime coach Jim Dixon created at Sulphur,” first-year head coach Corey Cole said. Cole, the 18th-year athletic director at Sulphur, stepped in as the team’s interim coach when Dixon, 71, died Sept. 11, 2022. He was the state’s third all-time leader in wins with 347 in 48 years at Sulphur. Offensively, the Bulldogs return a hefty crew of 10 players with starting experience. They will run a multiple spread offense with power, counter and zone looks and potential to exploit defenses out of play action and with screens. Colten Cole (6-3, 210, So.) will get the start at quarterback with a trusted tandem of familiar faces at receiver in BrytanGaddy (6-0, 179, Sr.) and Damontre’ Patterson (5-10, 160, Sr.). Maddax Mobly (6-9, 165, So.), a dynamic athlete, will be serviceable in the Bulldogs’ schemes out of the backfield or split at receiver. Justus Gilliam (6-1, 255, Jr.), a Sulphur transfer, and Nash Williamson (5-11, 210, Jr.) are the team’s top linemen and bring valuable experience to the unit.
DEFENSE
Sulphur has something few teams in the state have: all 11 starters returning from 2022. That experience could prove especially for the Bulldogs, who thrice lost on the final possession of the game last year. The Bulldogs will base out of a 4-3 with an emphasis on creative “chaos and havoc” in hopes to create turnovers and stop the run. Caden Cole (6-4, 260, Jr.) is the team’s veteran defensive tackle and will lead the charge in creating the chaos. Coy Myers (5-10, 190, Sr.) and Billy Anderson (5-11, 215, Sr.), both dynamic backers who can roll down to defensive end, will be responsible for the havoc. Austin Garrett (6-0, 185, Jr.) will anchor the defense at linebacker. Maddux Boyd (6-0, 175, Jr.) will take everything over the top at safety and Briar Davenport (5-10, 155, So.) will lock down his side of the field at corner.
