DNA is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. For Sulphur senior, Ally Dixon the family DNA runs red with a competitive spirit unmatched by anyone else.
Defined as determined and bold, Ally admits she’s in it to win it, no matter the Bulldog uniform she’s wearing.
“It doesn’t matter what sport it is. I always want to win and will do anything I can to get the job done,” confirmed the multi-sport champion at Sulphur High School. “Lettering in five sports is very rewarding. I love every sport that I play and being part of different teams and different atmospheres is what I love most. Each team is very different but I know my teammates are always there for me so it makes it easier.”
The competitive nature comes as no surprise given that she shares the Dixon winning tradition with her grandfather, Jim Dixon who has coached Sulphur football for more than four decades.
“Papa has encouraged me throughout every sport in my life,” replied “Big Al” as her closest friends and teammates know her. “He works so hard everyday that it encourages me to work hard at everything I do to achieve success like he has. I have learned to work hard and never give up.”
Her efforts have been part of Sulphur’s success in fastpitch and slowpitch softball, basketball and track along with a state qualifying performance in powerlifting. Her efforts and productivity draws high praise from her softball coach.
“Ally is a super athlete and she’s a great kid off the field, a winner in everything she does,” emphasized Heath Gilbert. “She also shares her time working with younger kids in our community.”
Gilbert’s words mirror the definition of character given by Ally who proudly wears the number-23 jersey.
“Character to me is the way other people see you and how you act around others. Your character is who you are- it’s your DNA.”
Owning a 4.0 GPA, Ally is a member of the National and Oklahoma Honor Society, president of FCCLA along with an active role in FCA and her church leadership team. She will graduate with honors in May with plans to be an athletic trainer or a physical therapist.
Whether it’s sports or any other activity now and in the future, Ally Dixon approaches every day following the words of advice from her dad, Reggie.
“The best advice I’ve been given was from dad ‘play hard and have fun’. It doesn’t seem like much, but my dad is my biggest supporter and knowing he is there watching and supporting me, it just means more coming from him.”
The advice also explains what Ally Dixon wants to leave as her legacy at Sulphur High School.
“I want my legacy to be how hard I worked for my team and my coaches. I want my teammates to always see me with a good attitude and being encouraging in all sports. I don’t just want to be known as a good athlete but a genuinely good person to be around.”
