Coach: John Hunt
21-22 Record: 21-5
After making back-to-back trips to the state tournament, the Wolves appear ready to make it a “three-peat” as four starters return from last year’s 21-5 squad. Leading the charge will be seniors Carter Perry (6-0, Sr.) and Brayden Cannon (6-2, Sr.), described by their coach as two of the best players in Class A for the 2022-23 campaign. “Carter has proven his ability to score in a variety of ways but he’s a defensive player that causes opponents problems,” said Jon Hurt, who begins his 11th year as head coach. “Brayden never gets the credit he deserves for the success of running our team as our point guard and is one of our best defenders.”
Adding to the experience under pressure will be juniors Logan Hulbutta (6-2, Jr.) and Layne Thrower (6-0, Jr.) after providing key performance last season. Among the other players that Hurt will look to deliver added production will be Nate Sheppherd (5-8, Sr.), Alan Cruz-Esparza (5-9, Jr.), Wesley Law (5-10, Jr.) along with Jarin Factor (5-8, So.), Brady Johnson (5-8, So.) while an eager group of freshmen including Caleb Yarbrough (5-6, Fr.), Karver Thentham (5-9, Fr.), Jaxon Austin (5-11, Fr.), Tucker Miller (5-6, Fr.) and Nakosi Harjo (5-10, Fr.) compete for playing minutes. “We will have to focus on sharing the basketball and rebounding if we want to make another run to the state tournament,” said Hurt.
