Despite the loss of two guards to graduation, the outlook for the upcoming basketball season and another trip to the Class A state tournament remains the same for the Lady Wolves. Among the confidence and expectations for Vanoss is the play of standout play in the paint of Madi Faust (5-10, Sr.) who head coach Jon Hurts tags as one of the best rebounders that he’s ever coached. The family tradition of Vanoss Lady Wolves basketball will once again include Avery Ellis (5-10, Jr.), whose versatility allows her to do a little bit of everything on the court. Another returning starter, Cadence Cross (5-6, So.) will direct the Lady Wolves play at point guard whose defensive efforts and all out effort played a key role in the team’s success last season.
Hurt will also look to major contributions form Trinity Belcher (5-1, Sr.), Jacee Underwood (5-7, Sr.) and Livi Ellis (5-10, Fr.), the youngest of the three sisters who have worn the Vanoss uniform, makes the best of her wingspan as a shot blocker in addition to the ability to score in a variety of ways. The intensity of practice time will provide opportunities to earn game time minutes for Eryn Khoury (5-8, Jr.), Kira Miller (5-2, Fr.), Naomi Harjo (5-6, Fr.), Brenlee Underwood (5-6, Fr.) Zoey Cagle (5-7, Fr.) and Jayla Underwood (5-6, Fr.). “This group has all the pieces to give us a chance to earn another ticket to state once everything comes together,” said Hurt.
