Bearcat senior Conner Hammons is a multi- sport athlete in football, basketball and track and is a three-year starter in all, sporing jersey number 22 in football and basketball.
“Conner is very dependable. He’s not real vocal but leads by example,” said his basketball coach Darian Dickson. “It’s been an honor to coach him the last two years.”
In football Conner plays running back and linebacker while in track he runs the hurdles. And while he admits that football is probably the most fun sport for him to play, he looks to basketball for a role model.
“(NBA standout) Ja Morant is one of my favorite athletes because he always has high energy,” said Conner who is also involved in the National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Success and good character go hand-in-hand for this Antlers upperclassman.
“To me the key to success is to always be positive and to be disciplined to do the things you might not always want to do to benefit the team. Being successful in one sport can carryover to the next by giving you the most confidence and the chemistry of the teams carryover. Character is how you conduct yourself when things aren’t going your way. Having good character helps you deal with the emotions of the game as well as in life.”
Conner has lots of things he enjoys doing outside of sports including listening to rap or maybe some country music, being on TikTok, Snapchat or Instagram or just hanging with friends, working out or watching Netflix. As he gets ready to leave Antlers after this senior year, Conner had some advice or those who will follow and what he would like his legacy to be.
“Coach Beasley always told me to give it your best and never quit. I’d like to be thought of as being the best athlete I could have been and one that always made everyone around me happy and also of being the hardest worker.”
