The Wampus Cats came as close to having a winning record last year as they have in a few years and as Taggart Lockhart takes over the program this season those hopes grow stronger. Opponents will set their sights on senior Eli Eaves (6-1, 180) who averaged a whopping 20.3 points a game last season for Atoka. “Eli is a great scorer who finishes well at the rim and has the best mid-range game I have ever seen in a high school athlete,” said Lockhart. “He draws a lot of attention from opposing teams, is a hard worker, very coachable, and a great kid.”

Manning the power forward spot again this year will be Kollin Ritchie (6-3) who contributed 7.2 points per game in 2021 and whose big-body presence down low will be a handful for opposing defenders. The other guard for the Wampus Cats will be Jace Jackson (5-10, Sr.) who averaged nearly 10 points a game last season. The Wampus Cats return a good nucleus of talent to a team that is headed in the right direction and if those three players plus others on the team adjust to Lockhart’s system and continue to improve, they might see that record tick into the win column in 2022. Lockhart will have Tyreke Johnson and Shawn Linton as his assistant coaches this year.
