Atoka’s JD Bland – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Stuteville Ford of Atoka

On the basketball court and football field, JD Bland, a junior at Atoka High School, is a formidable opponent. He stands out among the other student-athletes at his school because of his constant devotion to his sports and his pursuit of perfection.

When asked about his motivations, JD shared, “Something that motivates me is mainly both of my parents and my coaches.” He draws inspiration from his football coach, Jacob Cupp, and coach Sean Cooper, who have played a significant role in shaping his athletic journey. “He always pushes me to a different level and makes me a better athlete,” said JD of coach Cupp. Speaking about coach Cooper, JD remarked, “He doesn’t only just talk about football and stuff, he also teaches life lessons on how to become a better man on and off the field.”

While excelling in sports requires hard work and determination, JD emphasized the importance of putting his teammates first. “It takes a lot to be successful in football or basketball, mainly you have to be tough and work hard and put your teammates first.”

JD’s highlight moment of his career came in a football game against Tishomingo, a reflection of his dedication and skill on the field. Notably, he enjoys beating the Coalgate Wildcats, their rivals, showing his competitive spirit and passion for the game.

In practice, JD pushes himself against his friend Prince Coleman, both driving each other to new heights. He also highlighted the underappreciated efforts of Chris Washington, acknowledging his hard work and dedication to the team.

Beyond sports, JD is actively involved in YAHL leadership, the Upward Bound program, and other activities that support his school and community. Looking to the future, JD’s aspirations include pursuing his dreams of playing football at the next level and earning a college degree.

JD embodies the attitude of sportsmanship and drive, making him an extraordinary student-athlete. He is dedicated to achievement and represents his school and community with dedication. Reflecting the qualities that define his athletic path, his story is one of perseverance, teamwork and the pursuit of greatness.
