Academic achievement and athletic ability have blended seamlessly throughout Easton Wilkinson’s time at Coalgate High School.
As a member of the National Honor Society and the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to scholastic achievement while excelling on the baseball field.
Reflecting on his introduction to baseball, Easton has been around baseball for as long as he can remember. “I have always grown up around the sport.” Inspired by familial ties to the game, particularly his father and older brother, Easton found himself drawn to the catcher’s position, a role that runs in the family.
Among his athletic inspirations, Easton counts his father and older brother, both of whom have left indelible marks on his life. Their mentorship and support have shaped Easton’s approach to the game, instilling in him a sense of dedication and leadership.
Balancing the demands of academics and athletics requires meticulous time management for Easton. “I prioritize my time well,” he explained.
One memorable moment stands out in Easton’s high school baseball career: a clutch double in the 8th inning of a district playoff game during his freshman year, sealing a crucial victory for his team.
Despite facing challenges, such as health issues limiting his throwing ability, Easton embraced his role as a designated hitter and pinch hitter, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the team’s success.
Being part of a team has profoundly influenced Easton’s personal growth and character development. Drawing from the leadership qualities he observed in his older brother, he aspires to be a dependable teammate, both on and off the field, someone others can turn to for guidance and support. “I got to play one year with my older brother and saw his success and his leadership qualities.”
Before every game, Easton follows a personal ritual, taking a moment to pray and center his thoughts, preparing himself mentally for the challenges ahead.
Throughout his athletic journey, Easton Wilkinson acknowledges the pivotal role his coaches have played in his development. Grateful for their guidance and mentorship, he looks forward to continuing his baseball career in college while pursuing a degree in the medical field.
