Durant Lions Basketball 2021 Preview – Presented By Excel Therapy

GIRLS

Coach: Will Robinson

20-21 Record: 2-20

After a season of dealing with COVID-19 and injuries, head coach Will Robinson is ready to have a full season with a healthy team. “We have a lot of experience and production returning from the 2020-21 season,” said coach Robinson. “Last season wasn’t just hindered by COVID-19 but also injuries. A strong junior class looks to lead the way this season.” Rylan Lain (5-4, Jr.) is one of those juniors coach Robinson is referring to. Lain lead the team in assists with 3.0 per game and 2.0 steals per game while scoring 7.0 points. She missed nine games due to an injury, but returns as a strong leader on the floor. Addie McLemore (6-0, Jr.) shot lights out last season averaging 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. McLemore is an inside threat and capable of double-digit nights. Maya Dodson (5-7, So.) is another player who dealt with injuries last season. When she is healthy, Dodson is a force on the floor. Look for a lot of scoring from this guard. Addison Pettett (5-9, Jr.) is a combo guard that is the Swiss Army knife for the Lions. She can score, play defense, and get teammates involved in the action. Kinlee Hill (5-6, Jr.) is a scrappy guard that led the team in steals with three per game. Another shooter, Hill is dangerous with or without the ball. This team is talented enough to erase the memories of 2020 and enjoy a great season moving forward.

BOYS

Coach: Aaron George

20-21 Record:  2-16

The competition level in Class 5A basketball requires every team to bring their A-game to the court every night; a requirement that will provide a determined group of Lions to play at an up-temp style. “We want to speed up the style of play to allow our quickness to be an advantage for us,” said head coach Aaron George. “We’re a much more experienced team with more depth this year. By playing solid defense, we can change the outcome.” Nick Crouse (6-1, Sr.) will be the catalyst of effort for the Lions this season in a lineup that includes a determined group of juniors including Brian Freeman (6-1, Jr.), Hunter Wall (6-0, Jr.) Marshall Hatch (5-10, Jr.), along with Darren and James Diggs (6-1, Jr.). George is optimistic about what contributions a trio of sophomores can add to the scorebook and scoreboard including Jalon Saxon (5-10, So.), Da’Marion Ramsey (5-11, So.) and Braylon Lyday (5-10, So.).
