Durant’s Katelyn Mauck – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Weichert Realtors

Katelyn Mauck, a dedicated student-athlete at Durant High School, has become a standout figure in the world of cross country.

Mauck’s journey in cross country has been guided by her favorite coach, Coach Reynolds. “I have run for her for four years now, and I have gotten closer to her as each season goes by,” Mauck said. “She is very supportive of me, and she pushes me to run at my best. I do not think I would be here today without her coaching and encouragement.”

Mauck’s admiration extends beyond the coaching staff to her teammates. Her cross-country team is a tight-knit community of support. “Everyone on the cross-country team is so supportive and encouraging,” she said. “However, the seniors that our team has had the past two years have been great leaders and good examples for all of us to look up to.”

Mauck’s appreciation for those who have influenced her extends to the classroom as well. She is grateful for the teachers who have played a role in her education: “They have all been so helpful, kind and supporting. I appreciate how they all go out of their way to teach me in the best way.”

Cross country has been a crucible for Mauck, forging not only her physical endurance but her mental fortitude as well: “Cross country is probably one of the hardest sports someone could do, especially mentally. It is such a mentally tough sport and it can be very easy to quit. However, this sport has taught me to persevere and has taught me to work hard for what I want. It has also taught me to have a good and positive mindset, not only in sports, but also in daily life.”

Mauck’s aspirations are grounded in teamwork and excellence. “My main goal for the remainder of the season is to make it to state as a team,” she affirms. “It will take a lot of hard work, but I know we are capable of it.”

Beyond the high school track, Mauck aims to pursue higher education. “After high school, I hope to go to a good college where I can obtain at least a bachelor’s degree,” she shares. “So far, I do not think I will continue to run cross country in college because I want to focus on school.”
