HUGO BUFFALOES
Coach: KRYSTOPHER GROSS
7-4
OFFENSE
After a trip to the playoffs last season the Buffaloes of Hugo are eager to get back on the field and test their mettle against the rest of Class 2A. Head coach Krystopher Gross said the team is young, but optimistic. “We are having to replace eighton both sides of the ball. We are very young. With that being said, we have a new offense, and some new names to be listening for on Friday nights. Coaches are confident that even with all of the new faces, that we will remain very competitive, and hope to make the playoffs again in the Fall,” said Gross. One reason for the optimism is the return of LaMarcus Davis (6-1, 180, Sr.) at tailback. Davis has amassed more than 4,000 yards in his career at Hugo and will be the feature back in the offense. Coach Gross calls Davis, “irreplaceable as a safety.” Dashon Sims (5-10, 205, Sr.) is the halfback in the split back veer offense Hugo will run this season. Sims has over 1,000 yards on his career. Travion King (5-6, 145, Sr.) gets the nod at quarterback while DaMarion Ramsey (6-1, 170, Sr.) starts at wide receiver where he recorded more than 600 yards of offense last year.
DEFENSE
Davis averages 50-plus tackles a year with eight interceptions. He is one of the top safeties in his class and possibly in the state. Kory Mitchell (5-11, 250, Sr.) will start at linebacker in the 3-4 scheme Hugo will base in this season. Mitchell is a downhill linebacker who can cover from hash to hash. Look for Connor Frazier (6-6, 385, Jr.) in the trench. The big man is a run stopper and someone most teams will need to double-team. Jayka Santillian (6-0, 190, Fr.) is a hybrid type player who will see time at multiple positions. The exciting, young freshman may play safety or outside linebacker on defense and is already considered the backup at QB.
