By Payton Moody

Breaking barriers and setting the stage ablaze, Zion Siniga is a trailblazing cheerleader at Hugo High School. With unwavering determination, Siniga thrives on the cheerleading squad, making an impact both on and off the field.

Coach Lopez has played a pivotal role in Siniga’s journey, emerging as his favorite coach. “She always challenges me and helps me improve not just as a cheerleader but as an all-around athlete,” Siniga said.

Among his teammates, Siniga holds Treal Biggers, his junior year teammate, in high esteem. Treal’s influence sparked Siniga’s interest in cheerleading and provided unwavering support throughout their journey. “We always pushed each other through the good and the bad,” Siniga said.

Reflecting on influential figures beyond the cheerleading realm, Siniga credits his gymnastics coach for his disciplined approach to life. “He taught me more than just sports, he taught me life and how to live it,” he said, emphasizing the broader life lessons that athletics can impart.

Preparation is key for success, and Siniga’s off-season regimen speaks volumes about his commitment. “This off-season has been my most productive one yet,” he shares, detailing his disciplined routine of cheer practice, gym workouts and football practice. His dedication aims to shape him into the best version of himself for the upcoming season.

Beyond the athletic realm, cheerleading has instilled invaluable life lessons in Siniga. “My sport has taught me that every day, you have a choice to strive for greatness,” he explains, highlighting the importance of perseverance and determination in his daily life.

While cherished memories abound, Siniga’s journey to the University of Hawaii for cheer holds a special place in his heart. “Meeting new people, gaining new skills, and just going in every day and trying to be better than the day before,” he said.

Looking forward to the season, Siniga’s goals are clear. “I wish to accomplish a healthy season,” he said, expressing the desire for an injury-free experience. With his sights set on excellence, Siniga aspires to lead his team to the state competition, leaving an incredible mark on the cheerleading scene.

Anticipation runs high for Siniga as he looks ahead to basketball playoffs, where his team’s prowess will shine. Beyond high school, his aspirations are set on The University of Oklahoma, where he plans to continue his cheerleading journey.
