Hi, what are you looking for?

Durant Sports Zone

Q&A with Atoka’s Allison Williams – Presented by Kennedy Eyecare of Atoka

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season?

Allison Williams: In this year’s basketball season, I hope for our season record to be way better than last year, with at least 10 wins. I would love for this team’s attitude to be better. For my personal goal, I want play harder each time I go out onto the court.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?

AW: Mrs. Smithart was definitely a good influence for me. Mrs. Smithart is a middle school teacher. She made math fun and helped me understand it better. When I struggled, she gave me extra help when needed. I still sometimes go back and ask her for help for a better understanding.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

AW: Eden Eaves, my so-called “twin sister.” Eden has been a great supporter through sports despite our grade difference. Eden was in middle school last year and she came to all our home games and sat on the bench to support the team.

VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?

AW: I can’t wait for the Idabel game. I had #42, she is at least 6’4 and I am 5’10. #42 usually scores more than 20 points per quarter and last year when I guarded her, I keep her to 13 points per quarter. It was very hard, but I did it and felt proud. I hope to keep her to less than 13 this year.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

AW: Whether it was with any sport I play like basketball, soccer, track or even getting good grades, I had to work at it. If I wanted to succeed or start, I had to put effort and energy. If I wasn’t quite where I needed to be in basketball, I had to work on my range, my shot or maybe even just my attitude.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

AW: One of my favorite memories was on December 16, 2022, when all my hard work in practice finally paid off. I started against the Lady Buffaloes in the Talihina Tournament as a freshman.

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

AW: Coach Shelly has been my favorite coach until now. Coach Washington is now my new favorite coach. He has been the assistant coach for Atoka girls’ basketball for two years now. He is really helping me with improving my shot and my dribble. He had always had good energy at our practices and is very helpful.

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

AW: I do lack in better preparing myself for the next coming season in the off season. However, at least once a week, I would go shoot free throws, jumps shots, maybe even some 3’s if it was a good day. I also work on eating healthier all year round to keep my body in great health. I also go on some runs to try to keep my body in shape.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

AW: Right now, I plan to go to college to major in business and hopefully get a scholarship for a sport.
