VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
Keisean Shields: My favorite memory in basketball was my sophomore year we went to state and had an amazing season.
VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?
KS: I want to win a gold ball this year. I want to be the first team to win a boy’s state championship for my school. I want, as a team, to be the best team we can be.
VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?
KS: I am looking forward to playing Idabel.
VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
KS: Honestly, I haven’t really had a favorite teacher, as I have moved schools.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
KS: Basketball has taught me a lot. One is learning that no matter what, you can’t always win or have your way and it has taught me to be disciplined in life.
VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?
KS: I’ve had quite a few coaches in my career, but the first one is Will Holiman. He started training me when I was veryyoung and got me on his AAU team. He taught me how to work and everything to know about basketball. The other coach was Shane Winters from Stringtown. He coached me all through middle and taught me a lot of life lessons and how to conduct myself on the court.
VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?
KS: I had a lot of support from my team when I was in Stringtown, but I’ve always had my brothers Keylon and Mike Shields.
VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?
KS: This offseason, I’ve spent a lot of hours in the gym. All summer, I was in the gym. Then, I joined football. After football practice, I would go to the gym and train almost every day after football. I lifted every day during the offseason to get stronger and more explosive.
VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
KS: I plan on going to play college basketball somewhere, but I’m not sure where I’m going yet.
