Hi, what are you looking for?

Durant Sports Zone

Q&A with Durant’s Zoë Jones – Presented by Conley Care Clinic

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

ZJ: I ran more long distance this summer. I also ran with some of my teammates, did some tempo runs, and abdominal workouts to prepare for this season. I also ran two miles on the track!

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

ZJ: Cross-country has taught me the importance of friendship, leadership and teamwork. It also taught me the value of hard work and discipline. This strong mindset developed through miles of blood, sweat and tears has strengthened my character and work ethic that will continue to help me throughout my life.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

ZJ: One of my favorite memories from cross- country was when I ran at State my sophomore year. It was exciting to run with such fast and skilled runners.

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

ZJ: Both of my cross-country coaches have greatly impacted me as a runner. Coach Reynolds encourages me to keep moving forward, taught me the importance of family and to never give up! Coach Bokies is the GOAT! He has always believed in me from day one and taught me to believe in myself, to never fear, and test to follow.

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season?

ZJ: This season, I want to get in the 20 – 18 minutes in the 5k and place and go to State as a team.

VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?

ZJ: My matchup is with myself every day. Running is a mental matchup and about always striving to be better and reaching my goals.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

ZJ: feel that every teammate that I have had in cross-country I admire because cross-country is tough! We support each other as a family. Some special shoutouts go to Ashtyn Rienecker, AKA “my rival” since the 7th grade. She is one of my best friends and has helped me become the runner I am today. Mallory Reed has influenced me to be a good team leader and a better runner and Bradlin French taught me to always stay positive and smile. And to the four boys that I admire forever.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?

ZJ: One of my favorite teachers is Mr. Mitchell. He is an excellent history teacher. He makes history come alive and interesting. This year, I am in his media class and he reinforces the social skills needed for good teamwork.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

ZJ: I know I want to continue running after high school. I would love to run for a college like OU or SOSU. Or just go to college. I am excited for the next big step in my life, even if I am unsure of where it will take me, I know it will be amazing.
