Softball is the sport of choice for many young ladies growing up in the Tushka area. For Larmie Rains, softball has become her passion and playing with and for her teammates at Tushka High School has been a great experience and something she will never forget.
“The thing I love most about my teammates their drive to work hard every day on and off the field. My team is also a huge family and when one falls, we are all there to pick each other up,” said Rains.
The senior plays first base for head coach David Durbin and has been instrumental in helping the Tigers to a 22-10 record and a No. 10 ranking in Class A. Two shut-out victories in the district tournament was a great way to roll into regionals. For Rains and her teammates, playing hard and having fun is what it’s all about.
“The best thing about playing softball is having the ability to play your heart out and leave everything on that field,” said Rains.
The senior takes that same approach to the classroom. Work hard and good things will happen.
“My favorite subject in school Botany/ Zoology because I enjoy learning about different functions of not only animals but plants as well. My favorite is Mr. Mahaffey because he makes the classroom a fun learning environment and also strives to help each of his students succeed,” said Rains.
Away from the softball field and school, Rains said she enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies with the family and making memories with friends. Her future plans include college and more softball.
“My plans after I graduate are to go play softball on a scholarship at Carl Albert State College. I will also get my associates degree in Physical Therapy,” said Rains.
