Hartshorne’s Jackson Moody – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst McAlester

By Payton Moody

In the heart of Southeast Oklahoma, a senior quarterback is making waves both on and off the field.

Jackson Moody is a talented athlete who has been an integral part of the Hartshorne High School football team for the past few years. Having started at the outside linebacker and running back positions during his sophomore year, he took on the quarterback and free safety roles in his junior year, setting the stage for a remarkable football journey.

Moody’s performance on the field during his junior year speaks for itself: 1,017 yards passing, 1,035 yards rushing, 24 total touchdowns and an impressive 112 tackles.

When asked about his most influential coach, Moody was quick to credit Hartshorne Assistant Head Football Coach Jeff Beare. “He cares more about us than just on a sports-level, ” Moody said. “He talks to us like we’re people with other problems than just athletics.” Beare’s mentorship has not only shaped Moody’s athletic abilities but also instilled in him valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the gridiron.

To better equip himself for the upcoming season, Moody and his team have been hard at work throughout the summer, hitting the field at 6:30 a.m. for intense training. With two-a-days on the horizon, they are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of a successful season.

Reflecting on the values football has taught him, Moody emphasized how being a team leader has helped him find his voice and purpose. “It taught me how to be responsible and how to lead others in the right direction,” Moody said.

As the upcoming season approaches, Moody has his sights set on bigger goals – both for himself and the team. “I hope to be better than last year, and we expect to make a playoff run,” he said.

Looking ahead to the season, Moody is eagerly anticipating the rivalry game with the Wilburton Diggers, known as the “Battle of Gowen Mountain.” However, he also expressed excitement about facing Stroud again, another matchup that promises to be intense and thrilling.

While the future holds great promise for this young athlete, his plans after high school are clear. “I plan to play college football at the best level,” Moody stated.
