Thomas “Tre” Grippando, a junior at Hartshorne High School, serves as the chapter president of Future Farmers of America (FFA), embodying a deep-rooted passion for agriculture and FFA since childhood.
“FFA and agriculture have always been a big part of my life,” Thomas said, acknowledging his parents’ role in introducing him to this world. He recalls Mr. Ira Brinlee as the person who encouraged him to show his first pig at just four years old.
Throughout his years, Thomas has participated in various FFA activities like livestock judging, showing cattle and pigs and creed speaking, enriching his high school experience with enjoyment and knowledge. He values the friendships and connections made through FFA, describing them as “lifelong friends.”
Reflecting on the camaraderie within FFA, Thomas emphasized the sense of unity and support among members. “We are as close to family as it gets,” he said, highlighting the community spirit and willingness to help one another.
While Thomas has achieved success in competitions, he emphasized the importance of continuous learning and competing at the highest level. “No matter if you win or lose, always compete at the highest level that you can and always learn something from it.”
Beyond individual accomplishments, Thomas values the life lessons learned through FFA, emphasizing the importance of helping others and being a positive influence. “One of the most important things is helping others and always trying to be a great influence on the younger generation because, ultimately, that is the future of our industry.”
One of Thomas’s proudest moments was when his team achieved third place overall at the state contest, showcasing their growth and unity despite being underestimated.
“FFA has taught me so many life skills,” Thomas acknowledged, noting the invaluable work ethic and mindset instilled by the organization. “It instills a mindset and work ethic into young adults that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.”
Looking ahead, Thomas plans to pursue a career in bovine embryology, fueled by his love for livestock and agriculture. His journey with FFA has not only shaped his career aspirations but also instilled in him a deep appreciation for teamwork, dedication, and community service—a nod to the transformative impact of FFA on young leaders like Thomas Grippando.
