Character Counts – McAlester soccer player Cameryn Brown – Presented by McAlester Dentistry & Braces

Sibling rivalry can be a real thing at times, causing arguments and disagreements. But on the other side of the coin, it can also be a built-in friendship that will last a lifetime. Cameryn Brown says that the role models in her life are her sisters.

“My sisters are definitely my biggest influencers,” she said. “They have always been there for me and challenged me to do and be better.”

Brown is a junior at McAlester High School, where she is a member of the soccer team. She is also a part of the MHS Academic Team.

Becoming the player that she is today is not something that just happened for Cameryn. Instead, she has put in a lot of time.

“It takes a lot of hard work to be a successful athlete,” she said. “You have to be able to put in the effort even on your worst days. I am thankful to have the opportunity to play alongside such amazing individuals on my team. Kelsie Harden is someone I enjoy working with in practice because she is always a good sport and never gives up. Also, I think Evelyn Fabian and Natalia Reyes are both underappreciated players. They try so much, encourage everyone, and they both manage to make everyone smile on our worst days.”

Charlette Moss is the girl’s soccer coach at McAlester. She says that Brown has made a lot of growth and is an outstanding member of the team.

“Cameryn picked up soccer as a freshman and fell in love with the sport,” Moss said. “She has never shown frustration or anger while learning soccer, rather she continued to listen and work hard. In doing so she has progressed at one of the fastest rates that coaches have seen. This progress would not be possible if not for her genuine character. Cameryn works hard in and with honesty and integrity in everything she does.”

When she is checking out her social media accounts, Cameryn has one person that she says is her favorite one to follow.

“I like to follow Cassie Ho because she is very upfront about her struggles and how she overcomes them. She is very motivational.”
