There is someone or a few people in everyone’s life that makes an impact and helps shape them into the person that they will become. While some may have a bigger influence than others, the imprint they leave can last a lifetime. Lexi Watts is a senior at McAlester High School. She has a few people that she has looked up to throughout her life.
“Some of my biggest role models would be Tamara Roberts because she has taught me everything I know and she owns her own gym,” Watts stated. “Another would be Avory Day. I aspire to be as confident as him and be able to affect people’s lives like he does. as well as be on the NCA staff and a choreographer. One of my teachers at MHS, Shawn Calaway, has definitely made the biggest impact on me. He has taught me so many life lessons that have greatly impacted the way I look at my life, he is always there for whatever you need and has the kindest heart.”
At McAlester, Lexi is the captain of the cheer team and a member of the track team. When she puts on her uniform with her school’s name, she knows that she is not only a representative of her school and town but also, someone very special to her.
“Whenever I am representing my school, I think of my grandpa Wade Watts and how he would be proud of me,” she said. “I think of all of the little kids that I coach that look up to me. Lastly I think of my coach Brooke Mason who has taught me to be proud of what i am wearing and that I am a Buffalo.”
Lexi has made many memories throughout her career, but she has one moment that stands out at the top of her list.
“The highlight of my career is making all-state cheer,” she said. “Being the first one from my school in many years to make it was the moment that I accomplished something so amazing.”
